About us
Our mission
We envision a world where every child is brought up to lead a healthy, connected life. We are dedicated to working together to improve the health and wellbeing of entire families by creating opportunities for physical and emotional engagement through creativity and the arts.
What we do
Create original interactive experiences and playful resources that enhance the quality of family engagement, nurturing bonds and creating lasting memories.
Upskill parents, carers and practitioners in how to combat contemporary health and attachment issues through play.
We provide organisations with innovative tools to enhance cross-sector programming and boost access to new, returning and diverse family audiences.
Our Founder
Sally-Anne Donaldson
Sally-Anne is a dance anthropologist and theatrical event producer, specialising in movement development and family engagement. Her work is guided by a strong commitment to research and social impact, forming the core of her creative endeavours. That's why Curious Families UK exclusively focuses on bespoke productions, recognising that every community and organisation is distinct.
Sally-Anne has collaborated with theatres, museums, libraries, heritage buildings, gardens, and children’s charities, including Imperial War Museum, V&A, British Library, Museum of London, Polka Theatre, Barbican, RHS. Her service, Creative Homes, won the Knee High Challenge (2015, Design Council, Guys and St Thomas Charity, New Economics Foundation). As a consultant, she trains early years’ professionals in storytelling and movement play across health, charity and cultural sectors, most recently working with ERIC (children’s bladder and bowel charity) on their campaign It’s Good to Go.
At Curious Families UK, families take centre stage in all that we do, often collaborating with us in the co-design process. Sally-Anne recently marked a milestone with her first audiobook and e-book publication. Her favourite part of the job is taking a historical event and transforming its story into an engaging family adventure, or discovering a forgotten underground cellar and turning it into a family escape room.
Her in depth understanding of family need, early intervention and playful solutions, alongside production experience, means she writes stories that are entertaining, engaging and accessible, and equip families and organisations with quality resources to help give children the best start in life.
“As a talented artist, Sally brought huge energy, sensitivity and a wealth of experience and knowledge around engaging with young children to the writing process. We were delighted with the result. The feedback we’ve had, not just for children and their caregivers, but also health care professionals and education staff has been amazing. Sally’s input enhanced this resource, making it much more accessible and engaging than the other information we have on our website, such as leaflets and flowcharts.”
