A new book!

When its time to go, its time to go!

A Wee and Poo Adventure Story

Have you ever wondered what happens inside your body when you put off going to the loo? Well now you can find out in this fun story book aimed at children aged 4 – 7 years written by Sally-Anne Donaldson with Alina Lynden from ERIC, The Children’s Bowel & Bladder Charity.

Sally-Anne works with charities, theatre companies and third sector organisations, designing playful resources for families for campaigns and research projects. So when ERIC contacted us about their new campaign for children starting school, called “It’s Good to Go”, we were super excited.

With INK105 design agency we worked with ERIC, firstly with their campaign brand design and communications, guiding them through to focus their campaign and think playfully about how to communicate. This led to Sally-Anne and Alina writing together on their new e-book, illustrated by INK105.

Alina Lynden, Head of Communications and Content for ERIC comments on working with Sally-Anne:

“We came to a brainstorming session led by Sally bursting with ideas about raising awareness of bladder and bowel health with primary school aged children, but unsure of which direction the campaign should go in. Sally played a vital role in helping us to distil our ideas and narrow our focus in such a positive and logical way. We came away from that session with a much clearer plan of how we wanted to shape our campaign, who it should be aimed at and the resources we needed to create. Quite simply, Sally and the team at INK105 got ERIC and what we’re all about which isn’t always easy for people when it comes to a subject many people find hard to talk about openly.

Once we’d decided that the main pillar of the campaign would be a storybook aimed at children in reception class, I was delighted when Sally agreed to help write the story with me. Sally brought huge energy, creativity and a wealth of knowledge around engaging with young children to the writing process. It was a pleasure working with her and as an organisation we were delighted with the end result.

The feedback we’ve received from children, their parents and health care professionals is proof that the book we worked on together is achieving what we hoped. In an age appropriate and fun way, the book introduces some important messages for younger children around good toileting habits and the things they can do to keep their bowel and bladder working properly. By including signposting to ERIC and information on spotting the signs of constipation for parents and children to read together, we hope to raise awareness of this common condition and how it should be treated.”

Curious Families UK are not new to wee and poo. Our Toilet Sailor visits families, equipping them playful solutions to support potty and toilet training, bedwetting and the stress that goes with it! We are excited to continue working with ERIC on resources for families that aim to communicate the latest research and evidence, informing and supporting parents, carers and children in an accessible and playful way.
